Unilever Ventures Invests in Aussie Scalp Care Brand Straand

Straand, an Australian natural hair care brand that emphasizes scalp care, has signed a $2 million pre-seed investment deal with Unilever Ventures
 
Straand will use the funds from the investment to expand into the U.S., UK, Europe and China.

About Straand

The company, which was founded in 2022 and is based in Melbourne, features products free of parabens, sulphates and silicones.
 
Defenscalp is its chief prebiotic ingredient that balances the biome and helps combat dry, itchy skin and common conditions such as dandruff.
 
Other key ingredients include:
 
  • Panthenol (Vitamin B5)
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein
  • Sweet Almond Oil
  • Polyquaternium-10
 
“There has been limited innovation in the scalp health category for many years and it is ripe for disruption,” Rachel Harris, Partner at Unilever Ventures, told Forbes Australia. “Straand stood out with its microbiome-focused formulations, bold branding, youthful appeal and affordable positioning.”
 
According to Valuates Reports, the global Hair Care market size is projected to reach over $7 billion by 2027, up from nearly $5 billion in 2020, at a CAGR of 6.6% during 2021-2027.
